By Iris De La Torre.
Inspired by Frida Kahlo, her life and her fashion style I have designed the “Frida Piensa en Diego Earrings.”
Frida Kahlo was one of the most accomplished artists of her generation and she continues to be an icon and an example of originality, strength, individuality and an inspiration to many people not only in Mexico but all over the world.
The earrings feature the face of Frida Kahlo with a heart on her forehead as a reference from her 1949 painting “Diego and I.”
Her graphically abstracted outfit has a white flower head piece; a black scalloped huipil top and silver and gold articulated skirt. This dress was inspired by the “Tehuana” traditional dress from the Tehuantepec Isthmus, which is in the southeast part of Mexico in the state of Oaxaca. The Tehuantepec Isthmus is a society run by women. Frida Kahlo chose a very beautiful traditional dress that symbolises very powerful, independent and strong women.
They are fun and light, and they will surely make you feel lovely and stylish!
Made of printed light pink, sparkly glitter silver, glitter gold acrylic and gold plated components. It comes with a screen printed floral cotton drawstring bag with black logo.
Dimensions: 3.0 cm x 11.5 cm
Kindly note that the designs from this collection have been printed on to the acrylic; this means there may be slight variations of colour on parts of the printed surface. Nevertheless, the pieces are beautiful, handmade and unique.
Iris is inspired by the folkloric spirit of Mexico, it's naive art style and vibrant combinations of colour. She is influenced by 1960s graphic design and her jewellery features pattern, repetition, people, flora and fauna.
